And the last winner of the Mont-Tremblant Grand Prix was...

    ... Jacky Ickx.
Jacky Ickx, Belgium's most famous racing driver, won the last Canadian Grand Prix F1 at Mont-Tremblant in 1970. In his rich career, Ickx won 10 Grands Prix, became vice world champion twice, and was 6 time winner at Le Mans.
Ickx was at his best at extremely challenging circuits like the Nürburgring and... Mont-Tremblant.
Next weekend, Jacky Ickx will not be there. But another Belgian, Jan Heylen, is eager for revenge after his unlucky weekend at Cleveland.

I'm really looking forward to the champ car race at Mont-Tremblant. From what I've read and heard about it, I think this jewel in the mountains of Quebec will be the most challenging track of the season, together with Road America.

Start of the Grand Prix of Canada at Mont-Tremblant in 1970 - Jacky Ickx with the Ferrari nr 18:

Looks like an 18 car grid. F1 is doomed!

    Awsome pics there Deputy!
Like every war, the soldiers are the ones left behind and neglected. I for one will NOT turn my back on the CC soldiers, just because their generals conceded defeat.

TRPG, I told Kat you considered driving 10hrs to come today, her response was: "tell him I'm not worth it!!" then she laughed and said tell him hello from me. So there you go. Personal delivery of a personal hello - Meesh

While we're on the old school kick, here's the last (and only) Champ Car winner there, Mario Andretti, in 1968.

Mario has a perfect record there. Champ Car ran two doubleheaders at Mont-Tremblant, in 1967 and 1968, and Mario swept them both to win all four Champ Car races held there. Whoever wins this weekend will be the only person other than Mario to win there.

I've been practicing on the GPL version of this track and it is a blast! Very little margin for error, though. The guys are going to have their hands full. I bet they will love it, though!

Simming a bit before a race to get to know the track and recognize the corners when you see them on tv? That's my kind of time-waster!

Wow…is that a cool picture or what!!!

Like looking into a time portal. That is just a amazing picture.

Those cars look rather rad too!!!

    Two questions:
I wonder what the lap times were?
    and
Where did you find those pictures?

They should make Jacky Ickx a special guest and have him there as part of the official ceremonies. Latch a bit into the nostalgia thing...

Fastest lap in 1970: Clay Regazzoni (Ferrari) - 1'32''2

Lots of beautiful pictures from that era can be found on a fansite of Jacky Ickx: http://www.jacky-ickx-fan.net/

I absolutely agree. Jacky and Mario should be present as former winners of Grands Prix at Mont-Tremblant. Denny Hulme was the third winner (F1 - 1968) but he passed away in 1992.

At that time the series were not called 'champ car' series, were they? What was the name of the series in that period?
Does anyone know where I can find statistics of that era?
