Hey everyone,
A couple weeks ago before Sebring I had a little mis-adventure in Florida when I tried to check into a hotel room. Apparently you have to be 21 in Florida to book a hotel room and since I'm 19 and was travelling alone, and the people at the hotel had no compassion it created a bit of a problem.
I'm going to Long Beach by myself and booked my hotel months before I thought it would be an issue. Today I just called the hotel and sure enough to check in you have to be 21. It doesn't matter if a parent calls in or gives a note, a 21-or-over needs to be present at the time of check-in. It's too late to get a fake ID and that might not work anyways. Right now the only thing I can think of is to find a random person and ask them to act like they're my aunt or uncle or something to get me in.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Charles
That is total crap. If you are 18, you are an adult. How can they discriminate against you like that?
Come to think of it, when I reserve a room, I call in the reservation and make sure my room is guaranteed by giving them a credit card. Then, when I check in, I just tell them my name and to use the card I gave them for any incidentals. They never see my ID. Do you look so young that they ask for yours?

It is total crap and it resulted in my driving from Miami up to St. Petersberg in the middle of the night. When I went to Denver last year it wasn't a problem, same with a hotel near Road America and a hotel near Mid-Ohio. In places it's an issue they usually card me, but since my room is non-refundable and I doubt I can find another in the area with an open room I need a sure fire way to con my way in...
I'll have to send the Governator a strongly worded letter...

It's probably hotel policies or something...have you checked other hotels?

I was in Florida the weekend before Sebring and I was carded in Miami, twice in Orlando and at every hotel between St. Petersburg and Orlando. I asked when they turned me down, in Florida it's a state law and probably at least a city law in Long Beach/Los Angeles. I doubt very highly I can find another hotel within reasonable distance to the track at this point anyways.

Quick check of Google shows varying ages for checkin in Long Beach...18 or 21.
Florida hotels show age ranges of 18 - 25. Probably depends on how thrashed a place has ended up after spring break.
