I've purchased my seats for this years race and will be making the trek over the Rockies.
I have only passed though Edmonton before, any ideas of where would be a good place to stay?

The best hotels to stay at are the Ramada or the Chateau Nova. Last year I stayed downtown at the Holiday Inn Express but the other 2 hotels are right at the track. There is a great beer garden right in the parking lot at the Ramada. No driving to get to the track and back. All crappy's must meet in the parking lot for a few Molsons:beer:

I have a reserved sapace at a parking lot right beside the paddock entrence. I am going to bring my fathers motorhome for the weekend there, so we could have a great crappy get together there as well. Wont need to fork over 6 bucks a beer either. I'll get a keg:)

PLEASE!! DO NOT STAY AT THE HOWARD JOHNSONS!
We booked last minute, so we just grabbed whatever was the cheapest and it was by far the worst Hotel I have ever stayed in. I hate to say anything bad about anyone or anything, but it was not good...at least the staff was very nice...

Hence my 2 star rating. I worked at the hotel as the Night Manager years ago. I know this property from the inside out.
I worked in the hospitality industry for a number of years and have regular contact with many of the properties I listed above, so I am able to offer unbiased opinion on them.
I did not list any South Edmonton properties as access to the city center will be a mess in some ways as a major bridge is being closed for repairs until October.

I would love to come to Edmonton for this race, but my only option for a flight back on Sunday evening is at 6:00. How far is the track from the airport and do you think it is possible to make that flight time?

On a normal day allow yourself about an hour to get out to the airport from the track....so on race day, you've got the throng of people to get thru, figure the mode of transportation you are going to take from the racetrack and will it be available...I just think you might be cutting it too close my friend.....how uhhhhhhh cough cough...cough cough..I'm not feeling well ???? and staying til Monday??:wine
