Kart night 2006, who's interested?

Post on this thread if you want to race at Dromo1 Friday, April 7th.

$25 per person per run..If we have more than 20 we may want to run 2 heats and a 3rd "winner's race" for the 10 fastest to go toe-to-toe (or heel and toe) for bragging rights. :toast:

I'll maintain a list as soon as we have some entrants (other than me).

There is a small grandstand where those who want to witness the "ugliness" of some people's racing lines can sit during the races, and some bar tables "pitside" (no alcohol in Dromo, but there are a few establishments just across the street... Chili's, King's Fish House, Acapulco) for the victory lane celebration. :toast:

Dromo1 is in Orange. On Main street just North of Katella, East of the 57 freeway and the Pond.

A few things I should mention:

Dromo1 is a PUBLIC track, meaning that we will need a reservation (10 drivers per race) probably 30 days in advance to reserve the right time slot(s) to accomodate all that commit to racing.

D1 is approximately 22 miles from Ocean and Pine in Long Beach. Participants or spectators are responsible for their own transit to/from the venue. In years past, people involved have networked with others and shared rides.

The cost is $25 USD per race (7-8 lap qualifying session and 12-13 lap race) per driver.

There is a "rookie class" (required if you have never run there before) that takes about 20 minutes, so arrive early if it's your first time there.

I will set the schedule after I view the LBGP event schedule to allow for travel time to the kart track.

BTW ... I dont need a Rookie Test or so, because I'm running a few races per year. The last race is only two weeks ago at the Kart-Palast in Munich. Amongst others in the Grid was Adrian Sutil (Germanys A1 GP Driver) ... man he is damn fast ...

I will do my best to get a schedule together shortly, although the "fast guy race" a few years back took place at 10:30PM. I doubt that will be the case this time.

It all depends upon how many people want to race.

I can only do them at the races I attend, but I will check with my friend in MWKE and see if someone wants to get one together there.

I have often thought that every stop on the tour should have a kart night for the fans, hence I organized them at LB, SJ, and Vegas last year in hopes that the idea would catch on. Just because it hasn't so far doesn't mean it will not in the future.

The San Jose round will be bigger and better this year (along with being in closer proximity to the venue), so I hope the turnout warrants all the work.

I was so awful during my one & only attempt at Dromo One that I now participate as a spectator only (hey, someone has to cheer for the racers!). But everyone else had a great time, including the other rookies in the field.

If I can get 20 drivers, I may be able to book the place for that half-hour and then if there is a "fast guys" race in the works it could take place later.

We need to get this together folks, or it might be a late night!

Time: 6:00PM. First race at 6:15 (or so).

Cost: $25 per driver (spectators admitted free)

We will have time for at least 2 groups, and if we work "creatively" with the finances, we can have the track for a full hour! If we get 30 who want to drive, I'm pretty sure we will all get two runs in.

There are 23 committed as of now, and I'm pretty sure we will have a few more show up who want to run with us.

We have had a couple of cancellations bring us down to 20, so if anyone else wants to drive, we will have room for ~10 more.

ALSO: the Seaside parking structure is the one closest to the COnvention Center entrance (close to the pro/celeb compound).

That was fun, but only fun. Since it was a temp circuit in a parking lot, there was no timing, no qualifying, no race, just a bunch of practice. The karts sucked compared to dromo's too. Oh well, had fun, nice to see everyone again.

Regardless of the karts, qualifying, etc. my friends and I had an awesome time! manic put on a good show (even though he was late!) and everyone seemed to get their share of seat time. I talked to Dave (the owner of Apex Karting) and he said he uses those karts as a promotional deal for Red Bull. Dave was cool. I'm gonna throw down $175 and take his 1/2 day course at the Perris Fairgrounds.

The only regret I have from this deal was not introducing myself to most of the other Crappies that were there. I was so excited to get started that I forgot about the brotherhood. My bad. Please forgive me for I have sinned.
