MOLSON GRAND PRIX OF TORONTO KICKS OFF TICKET SALES
Wednesday, November 30, 2005

http://www.champcarworldseries.com/News/Article.asp?ID=9870

TORONTO (November 30, 2005) - Just three weeks after announcing that they had acquired the race rights for the Molson Grand Prix of Toronto (former Molson Indy Toronto), Grand Prix Association of Toronto today kicked-off ticket sales in time for the holiday gift-giving season.

New Website for the Champ Car Molson Grand Prix of Toronto
In a media briefing held in downtown Toronto, Champ Car principle Kevin Kalkhoven, who along with partner Gerry Forsythe, acquired the rights for Toronto's Champ Car event on November 3, confirmed that work on the 2006 Grand Prix of Toronto, which will be held July 7, 8 and 9, was well underway.

"As expected, we are fully up and running just a few weeks after acquiring the race rights from Molson," said Kalkhoven. "The Toronto stop on the Champ Car calendar is a significant cornerstone in our schedule and we have been successful in ensuring the transition was seamless. We are committed to making certain that the race maintains its high-profile status in the Toronto market and are confident that we will maximize our consumer marketing outreach for the Toronto event.

"To assist us during this transition period, we have appointed Charlie Johnstone as the interim General Manager. Charlie understands the history of the event and he will be valuable in helping us to continue to move forward over the next few months."

Johnstone, a former Molson executive, also developed consumer-marketing promotions around the NHL, CFL and Toronto Blue Jays.

" Since its inception in 1986 not only has the Toronto event featured the best in international open-wheel racing talent, but has also provided a platform for the sports' developing young drivers who compete in the support events scheduled on race weekend. The 2006 Grand Prix of Toronto will also feature Champ Car's flagship development series, the Champ Car Atlantic Championship." said Kalkhoven.

The Atlantic Series is entering its 33rd year in 2006 and in 15 previous races held in Toronto, a Canadian has finished on the podium each time.

Notable graduates of the Atlantic series include Champ Car drivers, A.J. Allmendinger, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Jimmy Vasser and such Canadians as Alex Tagliani, Andrew Ranger, Jacques Villeneuve, David Empringham, and Patrick Carpentier

"This is the same international event it has been for the last twenty years," added Toronto native Paul Tracy, who won the event in 1993 and 2003 and was also on hand for the media briefing. "It's still one of the drivers' favorite cities to race in and it's still the place I want most to win year after year. This year Champ Car was very competitive, we put on a great show in Toronto and the race brings $30 million dollars into the city. I'm looking forward to being back at Exhibition Place."

"Champ Car is in a very aggressive period right now," added Kalkhoven. "Over the past eighteen months we have been growing our business and strengthening our position as the leading open-wheel racing series in North America. Champ Car and its sponsors earned exceptional dividends in 2005. Overall exposure value for series sponsors totaled $98,241,635 in 2005, a number that was more than eight million dollars higher than 2003 figures despite the fact that the 2003 season featured 22 telecasts as opposed to this season's 13.

"It clearly indicates that our efforts to improve our television package have been successful and that we continue to provide the highest possible value and return on investment for the dollars our sponsors invest. Now is the time to get involved in Champ Car, be it with the series or in Toronto."

The Toronto race is one of three Canadian events on the Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford calendar in 2006.

Tickets for the 2006 Molson Grand Prix of Toronto are now on sale with prices remaining the same as in 2005. Tickets can be ordered by calling 1-877-865-RACE-(7223)

KK in TO?

If I didn't read about this, I would've have known.... there was no lead up to this or mention in the media.

I wonder if there's any early bird special for purchasing tickets now..

regarding the TO track, does anyone out there feel that there should be grandstands at the end of lakeshore blvd. that's where all the action and passing is....

Every year there has been an early bird special.

Turn 3 grandstand - Absofockinglutely!

I imagine the big problem with a turn 3 grandstand is set-up/tear down time, as well as run offs.

If you remember, there's quite a substantial run off area behind turn 3 - and they need it, especially in practice each year as drivers get closer and closer to that knife edge of braking at the last possible second.

You can stand down on the inside of turn 3 - it's a great place to watch practice or qualifying.

Hey gang. Tried to get the answers to all your questions through by E-mail but had TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES SO, I'm jumping on the board to tell y'all what you need to know.

1) Prices are the same as last year. If the price on the renewal form is out of wack, disregard it. I have all the right prices.
2) Seats are being held for all renewal customers until January 16th.
3) Free paddock passes with renewals again this year
4) Purschase of 4 golds by December 23rd. gets you 1 pace car ride.
5) OF COURSE YOU GET THE 10% CRAPPY DISCOUNT AGAIN!
6) Grandstand 23 is moving back to where it belongs. No big wooden decks taking prime fan space.

I've been keeping an eye on your new seating ideas and all I can say is THE IDEA DEPARTMENT IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS. I'll see where I can take this.

We're ready to Rock!

How about a Grandstand at Station 5? I've worked this station many times and there is enough room where the photopass tower is to remove it and add a grandstand and still have room for the safety vehicles. It's a great spot to watch the cars come up the small rise from turn 3 and hit the apex and then down towards the fountain. Lot's of action, wheel to wheel contarct and the odd tire wall or scrape or two. I don't need a seat - I already have the best spot at the track (blue flagging for PT!) - just thinking about the fan however.

Ps: bought 5 seats this year so the wife is gonna have a thrilling pace car ride.

Back in sect. 21, row two I think. I'm not really sure - Boogie711 got my ticket renewal!!! It seems like some of the crappy ticket renewals got a little mixed up, the envelopes and the renewal forms didn't match. Oops.

(If Doug from Mississauga is around, send me a PM.)

We got are regular 15 tix in the gold - see you there Whalen.

If this is Paul's last year we have to do something. Maybe we should all make chrome horns (tinfoil and cardboard, not real chrome) and attach them to our hats.

I'll find out where Molson is doing there things this year and organize with Meesh a bar for the crappies. I imagine she is also probably diong something with CCIC.

It's going to be a long 6 months till Toronto! Meesh always does a spectacular job, last years 05 IC dinner was outstanding! It will be interesting to see how she can top it!
Chrome shoe horns sounds great!
Maybe Nemick should "chrome" the nose of PT's car???

Other ideas to go along with PT's famous quotes:

Maybe someone can dress as the "circus clown".
Or someone could give PT a cpl of fabric "golden horseshoes" to sew to the butt of his racesuit! :)

So I'm looking today at the Local section of the paper and reading a story on the new stadium being built at Exhibition Place for the soccer team. This is a major construction, it appears, right in the middle of the current track lay-out.

http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_Type1&c=Article&cid=1140475845051&call_pageid=970599119419

If anyone knows, what effect, if any, is this going to have on the race??

Curious, as nothing has been mentioned, as far as I can tell, about this.

Dave?

I checked with ops and they showed me their map for this year. Other than a little less standing space at turn 9 and some repositioning of the motorcoach area, everything looks fine. There will be no effect on the race sightlines in any of the grandstands.

Grandstand 21 is not sold out. Anyone who's having trouble accessing any grandstand should give me call.
Cheers!
