View Full Version : CWGT2: Tim Richmond Memorial Camel Continental (6 Hours of the Glen) LIVE THREAD

The VERY last timed endurance race of the season before the 24 Hours of the Nurburgring, our traditional 6-before-the-24 promises to be just as wild as last season's crucial race at Rouen, which gave the title to Mr. Vengeance in a dramatic cockblocking move which sent Cohiba to the trailer in a very disappointing 3rd place. Tonight's race at Watkins Glen promises to be JUST as desperate and tough.

First, our championship battle as of 29 races completed, with 3 to go (including this one):

1. FCYTravis, Mr. Vengeance, Doft, Mazza19, mclark2112, Rogue Leader, Cigar2 (2)
8. Scott, Dan Belcher, Madre, mommymushbrain, Greg Pizzo, power&glory, denith, Padre, MHF, FlyingbuckeyeC1, CARTChamp, WildrideFS, Caspar, cartcanuck, Stalker (1)

Those without a win need to STEP IT UP and start staking their claim in the championship battle, or else they'll be left in the cold after the Bowman-Gray event tomorrow night!

I'll step it up if you can crank up my reliability and agressiveness. :D

QUALIFYING IS OVER...and...in what could be a decisive move to try to take it all right now, right here near the Finger Lakes of upstate New York, Cigar2 takes the pole! Also in dramatic championship developments, Travis did NOT PREQUALIFY! With all other championship contenders well behind on the list, this looks to be a huge opportunity for the Henn's T-Bird Swap Shop outfit.

0:00 - In a tough break, before the start, Stalker has to pit! This is likely to ensure that the lack of consecutive winners in series history _continues._

We may be experiencing a bit of a coverage blackout due to the unusual lack of funds at the CWGT headquarters in the Cayman Islands.

0:01 - Stalker is NOW OUT with valve trouble, without having ever crossing the line to start this race! A tough break!

0:02 - CARTChamp pits.

TheStranger

4:37 - And thanks to a grant from Jack's Tool Rental of Carmel, Indiana, we can cover the last few minutes!

Mommymushbrain is IN THE LEAD, 21 seconds ahead of Chief! Hosehad lies in 3rd. Only 23 cars are still running due to heavy attrition and accidents, and only the top 7 are within a minute of our leader. But 17 cars are on the lead lap.

4:39 - And while we do have remnant footage from the hours we lost, our broadcast partner has seized the tapes.

TheStranger

4:44 - MMB pits, giving Chief the lead!

TheStranger
01-19-2005, 10:35 PM
4:50 - Chief pits and Nadira now leads MMB by two seconds with an hour ten to go in this carnage-filled, but unfortunately scantly televised six hour!

Autoracing21.com reports in the Toretellini Spycopter that while currently on the schedule as a 100 miler, next year's Watkins Glen event may be a 6 again. This is no guarantee, however, and the traditional 6-before-the-24 may go to another track.

4:51 - Nadira is losing her gap, it's now just .386 seconds!

MMB takes the lead in the Esses!

4:53 - Spinout, well behind, has blown a camshaft and is our latest DNF.

As of the start of lap 157, the gap is now 2.917 seconds between leader MMB and 2nd place Nadira.

4:57 - How about nine seconds now? MMB really has turned it on knowing that a win would ABSOLUTELY bolster her chances at her first CWGT title.

4:59 - Twelve seconds! Wow!

AND WITH JUST ONE HOUR TO GO IN THIS POORLY BROADCAST TIM RICHMOND MEMORIAL SIX HOURS OF THE GLEN...

1. MMB (159 laps)
2. Nadira (12.571)
3. Hosehead (15.891)
4. paper (29.588)
5. Chief (29.838)

5:04 - MMB's lead is now a commanding 18 seconds over Hosehead, who is now 2nd. Nadira is 3rd, 20 seconds back.

5:06 - Hosehead is now 20 seconds back, and Nadira 27.

5:09 - 21 and 31 second gaps. Chief hard on Nadira's tail.

TheStranger
01-19-2005, 10:56 PM
5:11 - Nadira loses the final podium spot to Chief!

5:12 - Nadira pits!

5:14 - MMB leads Hosehead by 23 seconds and Chief by 36. The Nyahmobile/Pluck Pluck Pluck crew are in lockstep brilliance right now, exactly at the right time in a tight, low-scoring championship battle like this season's.

5:16 - The top 4 are the only ones within a minute of each other.

5:18 - MMB now leads Chief by 37 seconds, Wildride by 44, and Hosehead (who pitted) by 50.

TheStranger
01-19-2005, 11:05 PM
5:20 - MMB's lead WAS 33 seconds as of lap 170, but on the 171st lap she pitted and Chief is now RIGHT behind!

5:22 - MMB continues to hold a now precarious lead of two tenths on Chief as they rumble down towards the Outer Loop!

5:23 - The Nyahmobile Stang is REALLY powering it on as despite that threat for first, MMB defends her lead and even builds about 30 carlengths on it! Chief now pits to open his 173rd circuit.

5:27 - Hosehead has actually GAINED a second on MMB! The lead is now 11.779 seconds.

TheStranger
01-19-2005, 11:16 PM
5:31 - Those gains were short-lived, and the gap is now just 12.162 seconds.

5:33 - It's now up to 14 seconds. 8 cars though are within a minute of our leader MMB.

5:34 - Through the boot, MMB is rapidly approaching championship contender Mr. Vengeance. He can still ruin her day with a bodyslam of some sort, just like Cohiba at Rouen. But will he do it?

5:36 - Matt has bowed out with header troubles, a tough break after being a part of a historic podium at Summit Point last night.

5:37 - MMB SAFELY GETS BY MR. V BEFORE THE OUTER LOOP! Mr. Vengeance is now a crushing lap down.

TheStranger
01-19-2005, 11:26 PM
5:42 - MMB has made lapped cars bow down to her and weep, as they are now all behind her with a quarter mile of clear racetrack between her and the next lapper, CARTChamp.

182 laps are now complete here at Watkins Glen.

5:45 - MMB may have to pit sometime in the next 15 minutes - coincidentally, the last 15 minutes of the race. This is from our on-track scanner.

5:47 - MHF, paper, and Corey are in!

TheStranger
01-19-2005, 11:34 PM
WITH JUST TEN MINUTES TO GO...

MMB is headed up the Esses on the run to the Outer Loop, now with a nice 18 second lead on Hosehead. She's on her 187th lap.

5:53 - MMB and raptor both signaled they would pit, but do not go in!

Hosehead pits, however!

5:54 - So does Nadira!

5:55 - RAPTOR SLOWS! STALLS IT ON THE TRACK!

MMB PITS! CAN SHE GET OUT BEFORE HOSEHEAD COMES AROUND!?

5:56 - YES! SHE GETS OUT OF PIT LANE JUST AS HOSEHEAD HITS THE S/F LINE!

5:58 - It looks we'll have TWO laps to go at this point for MMB to the checkers! Hosehead though is just 4.962 seconds behind!

5:59 - ONE LAP TO GO AND THE GAP IS JUST 3.361 SECONDS!

AND IN A VIRTUAL REPEAT OF THE LATE-RACE PIT DRAMA AT CWGT1 MOSPORT, MMB AND HOSEHEAD FINISH FIRST AND SECOND AT THE TIM RICHMOND MEMORIAL CAMEL CONTINENTAL!

CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS AFTER THIRTY RACES

1. FCYTravis, Mr. Vengeance, Doft, Mazza19, mclark2112, Rogue Leader, Cigar2, mommymushbrain (2)
9. Scott, Dan Belcher, Madre, Greg Pizzo, power&glory, denith, Padre, MHF, FlyingbuckeyeC1, CARTChamp, WildrideFS, Caspar, cartcanuck, Stalker (1)

WHAT MUST BE DONE TO WIN THE TITLE

Anyone in first place (two wins) needs only one win at either Bowman-Gray Stadium tomorrow night or Nurburgring for the 24 on Friday to take a lead and guarantee that they would at least clinch a Trophy Dash spot for themselves, and most likely the outright title.

Anyone in ninth place (one win) needs only one win to at least get into the running for the Trophy Dash, and if they can pull off consecutive wins (which has never happened in CWGT history), they can take the title outright.

Those without a win are in dire straights - one MUST win the next two consecutive races to at least get a shot at the Trophy Dash.

Jeez, looks like you need to start paying the bills Stranger. Broadcasters today don't like deadbeats (unless your initials are TG, in which case the fan doesn't like you)

Well, dsriggs, hopefully next season we can get that cured with a lot of new sponsor money ;)

"It's taken us quite a few races to get the car back up on top, where it belongs. My sponsors are so happy they have thrown a party for the everyone here... lot of PluckPluck chickens and Jack to wash 'em down with!

Our goal is to keep this up with another win, and hopefully grab up our first championship!"

So do you have a report on the antics at the team trailer party? :D :whip:

Before or after the farm animals left?

No post-race party reports. Those are part of the team's secret formula. ;)
